First Visit

What time should I get there?

Our worship services are currently at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday morning. We have adult small groups that meet at 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Preschoolers meet at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Children and students meet at 11:00 a.m. Stop by the Connect Desk before or after worship if you have questions about small groups.

What should I wear?

Please feel free to dress in whatever way you are most comfortable.  At Nansemond River, you'll find some people dress casually, and others are more dressed up.  Most people are somewhere in between.

Where do I park and where do I go?

The entrance to our campus is on Bennett's Creek Lane (even though the church faces Bridge Road).  We've marked everything for you with large blue signs. First, look for the large blue sign that reads "Main Entrance" and turn onto the church campus at that sign.  From there, look across the parking lot for a large blue sign that reads "Guest Parking."  Once you've parked in guest parking, you'll see another "Main Entrance" sign leading to the lobby of our Worship Center.  From there, our Connect Team will greet you and make sure you find your way.

What should I expect during the worship service?

Our worship service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes.  If you'd like, you can fill out a Connect Card from in back of the pew in front of you and place it in the offering plate later in the service.  We will sing together, read scripture, pray, and our pastor will preach for about 40 minutes.  There may be other elements in the worship service you attend not listed above, but the ones listed are always a part of our services.

We sing songs that are gospel-centered and Christ-exalting.  We sing both new and old songs.  We do have a full band most Sundays, but it's not a concert environment.  They lead in such a way as to encourage participation in worship.  The words to all of the songs we sing will be on two large screens.

Our pastor preaches verse-by-verse through a book of the Bible.  You can watch previous sermons if you'd like to get a good idea of what to expect.  Sermon notes are provided, so it's easy to follow along.

Finally, we promise that no one will call on you, make you stand while everyone else sits, or do anything else to draw attention to the fact that you're new.

What about my kids?

At Nansemond River, we believe that children are a blessing from the Lord.  We also believe that parents are the primary disciplers of their children.  Therefore, it is entirely up to you what you do with your young children during the worship service.  If you choose to keep your child with you during the service, we simply ask that you are mindful of the people around you.  We do have a mother/infant room in our nursery area with a live feed of the service for mothers who need to feed their baby.

We do have a worship option for preschool children (Wee Worship) and for children in 1st - 3rd grade (Kid's Worship).  Please select either of the following for more information about what is available for your child at NRBC.

Nursery & Preschool (Birth-Kindergarten)

Elementary Aged Children (1st-3rd Grades)

We'd love to meet you and hear more about how we can minister to you! Please fill out a connect card and we will have a gift for you at our Connect Desk located in our lobby.
