Future Resurrection

October 3, 2021 Preacher: Ryan Brice Series: 1 & 2 Thessalonians: The Past, Present & Future

Passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

Hope Found in the Future Resurrection

  • 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.
  • 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Foundation of the Future Resurrection

  • 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:12–19
  • 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
    • Matthew 24:29–31
    • 2 Corinthians 5:8

Circumstances of the Future Resurrection

  • 16a For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.
    • John 5:25–29
    • John 11:43, 44
    • Matthew 24:31
  • 16b And the dead in Christ will rise first.
  • 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
    • Matthew 24:30
    • Acts 1:11
    • Daniel 7:13, 14

So What?

  • Do I have the hope that comes only through faith in the future resurrection ensured by the resurrection of Christ?
    • John 14:1–6

Further Discussion

  • Why is the resurrection of Jesus an essential doctrine in understanding the future resurrection that is to come?
  • What gives us hope in times of death that separates us from those who have not believed the gospel?
