Main Idea: We are wholly unable to save ourselves and are largely ineffective when serving by ourselves.

Recognition That We Cannot Save Ourselves

  • Jethro and Moses recognize the saving hand of God on His people

  • Jethro and Moses worship God for His salvation

Realization That We Cannot Serve By Ourselves

  • Jethro observes Moses attempting to lead the people alone
    • Exodus 18:13–18
    • Ecclesiastes 4:9–12
  • Jethro instructs Moses to entrust others with leadership responsibilities
    • Exodus 18:19–23
  • Moses listens to Jethro and organizes a leadership structure for the people
    • Exodus 18:24–26
    • Proverbs 19:20

So What?

  • We must look to Christ for salvation and join with others in His church for ministry.
    • Ephesians 2:8, 9
    • 1 Corinthians 12:12–26
