God's Mercy in a Scornful World

Main Idea: As God’s people, through his mercy, we can overcome the contempt and scorn from the views of worldly people.

As Christians, We Are to Acknowledge God’s Sovereignty

  • 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

As Christians, We Are to Look to the Lord as His Servants

  • 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy.

As Christians, We Are to Seek God For His Mercy

  • 3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt.

As Christians, the World’s Contempt and Scorn Cannot Deter Our Faith in Christ

  • 4 We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.

So What?

  • As Christians, we have the assurance that through Jesus, we can receive his mercy and grace during difficult times.
    • James 4:6
