While we are meeting, our normal schedule as listed below has been modified to accommodate COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. For more information on what we are doing as a church to ensure your saftey during worship, please visit our COVID-19 information page.
What time should I get there?
Our worship service starts at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday morning. We have adult small groups that meet at 8:15 a.m. and small groups for all ages that meet at 11:00 a.m. Stop by the Connect Desk before or after worship if you have questions about small groups.
What should I wear?
Please feel free to dress in whatever way you are most comfortable. At Nansemond River, you'll find some people dress casually, and others are more dressed up. Most people are somewhere in between.
Where do I park and where do I go?
The entrance to our campus is on Bennett's Creek Lane (even though the church faces Bridge Road). We've marked everything for you with large blue signs. First, look for the large blue sign that reads "Main Entrance" and turn onto the church campus at that sign. From there, look across the parking lot for a large blue sign that reads "Guest Parking." Once you've parked in guest parking, you'll see another "Main Entrance" sign leading to the lobby of our Worship Center. From there, our Connect Team will greet you and make sure you find your way.
What should I expect during the worship service?
Our worship service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. If you'd like, you can fill out a Connect Card from in back of the pew in front of you and place it in the offering plate later in the service. We will sing together, read scripture, pray, and our pastor will preach for about 40 minutes. There may be other elements in the worship service you attend not listed above, but the ones listed are always a part of our services.
We sing songs that are gospel-centered and Christ-exalting. We sing both new and old songs. We do have a full band most Sundays, but it's not a concert environment. They lead in such a way as to encourage participation in worship. The words to all of the songs we sing will be on two large screens.
Our pastor preaches verse-by-verse through a book of the Bible. You can watch previous sermons if you'd like to get a good idea of what to expect. Sermon notes are provided, so it's easy to follow along.
We will take an offering towards the end of the service, but we do not expect you to give anything. Instead, we'd invite you to visit our Connect Desk by the wood wall in the lobby where we will have a gift for you and can answer any questions you may have.
Finally, we promise that no one will call on you, make you stand while everyone else sits, or do anything else to draw attention to the fact that you're new.
What about my kids?
At Nansemond River, we believe that children are a blessing from the Lord. We also believe that parents are the primary disciplers of their children. Therefore, it is entirely up to you what you do with your young children during the worship service. If you choose to keep your child with you during the service, we simply ask that you are mindful of the people around you. We do have a mother/infant room in our nursery area with a live feed of the service for mothers who need to feed their baby.
We do have a worship option for preschool children (Wee Worship) and for children in 1st - 3rd grade (Kid's Worship). Please select either of the following for more information about what is available for your child at NRBC.
